The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has ordered members nursing parliamentary ambitions to immediately halt all activities that suggest early campaigning ahead of the official opening of nominations.
The directive, issued by the party’s Functional Executive Committee (FEC) on Tuesday, September 14, comes on the back of concerns over moves by some members in various constituencies with apparent interest in contesting parliamentary seats.
In a statement, the FEC warned prospective aspirants against organizing or taking part in meetings, tours, donations, public appearances and other engagements meant, or reasonably seen, to promote their candidature before nominations are officially opened.
The party said such premature moves could affect its unity, cohesion and orderly operations, and has therefore asked all involved to stop.
The NDC cautioned that members who flout the directive will face disciplinary action and stiff sanctions in line with the party’s Constitution, rules and regulations.
It has further directed Regional, Constituency, Branch and other party officers to enforce compliance and report any violations to the appropriate party structures.
“The NDC remains committed to a transparent, orderly and credible process for selecting its Parliamentary Candidates. The Party will, at the appropriate time, officially communicate the opening of nominations and the applicable guidelines,” the statement added.
The party urged all members to respect its laid-down processes and uphold discipline in the interest of unity.
