The party’s Western Regional branch describes the celebrated broadcaster and communicator as a major loss to Ghana’s entertainment industry and the NDC fraternity.
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Western Region has expressed profound sorrow over the death of celebrated television personality and party communicator Seth Kwame Dzokoto, popularly known as Efiewura and SKD.
In a statement, the party described his death as a significant loss to the NDC, Ghana’s media and entertainment industry, and the general public, highlighting his distinctive presentation style, humour and ability to connect with audiences.
Mr Dzokoto combined a career in broadcasting and entertainment with active political engagement, serving the party in various communication roles over the years.
From Broadcasting to Political Communication
Mr Dzokoto began his political communication career as Deputy Constituency Communications Officer for Tarkwa-Nsuaem before becoming the NDC’s parliamentary candidate for the constituency in the 2016 general elections.
He subsequently served on the Western Regional Communications Committee from 2018 to 2022, contributing to the party’s communication and advocacy activities.
The NDC said his ability to communicate political ideas while connecting with people made him a valued figure among party members, supporters and the wider public.
“His exceptional ability to connect with people, entertain audiences and communicate political ideas made him a cherished personality among his colleagues, supporters and the general public,” the statement said.
Party Recalls Support During Health Challenges
The party also recalled Mr Dzokoto’s serious health challenges in 2023, when former President John Dramani Mahama facilitated arrangements to support his medical treatment abroad.
According to the statement, the surgery was successful, allowing him to recover and return to public and political engagement.
The NDC said it was particularly saddened by reports that Mr Dzokoto died while participating in a radio discussion on the forthcoming constituency election.
It described the circumstances surrounding his reported death as a reflection of his dedication to political discourse and party activities.
NDC Pays Tribute to His Legacy
The party said Mr Dzokoto’s death had left a painful void in its Western Regional Communications Bureau, adding that his contributions to broadcasting and political communication would continue to inspire future generations.
It extended its condolences to his wife, children, extended family, friends, media colleagues and members of the NDC fraternity.
The statement was signed by the Western Regional Communications Officer, Richard Ernest Kirk-Mensah, on behalf of the party’s regional leadership and members.
