Newly promoted teachers do not have to apply for their salaries to be upgraded, the Ghana Education Service (GES) has stated.
The directive comes after reports that some teachers who have moved to higher ranks were being told to submit application letters, promotion letters and other documents to get their new salaries processed.
In a press release issued on Saturday, August 22, 2026, GES said the automatic salary adjustment system for promoted teachers remains in force. The statement was signed by Head of Public Relations, Daniel Fenyi.
According to the Service, teachers elevated to new ranks are automatically placed on the corresponding salary scale for that rank.”
This existing practice has not changed,” the statement stressed.
GES, therefore, asked all affected teachers to disregard any instruction to submit paperwork for salary adjustment.
Management added that it was engaging the few regions and districts reported to be demanding such documents from teachers. It urged teachers to stay calm while the issue is addressed.
