The Ministry of Energy and Green Transition has debunked reports suggesting a nationwide power outage on Sunday, July 13, 2025, labeling such claims as “inaccurate and misleading”.
According to the Spokesperson and Head of Communication at the Ministry, Richmond Rockson, temporary power interruptions were possible due to scheduled maintenance by ENI, but there’s no plan for a nationwide blackout or widespread “dumsor”.
He clarified on Citi Eyewitness News, which was monitored by Ghanaian RADAR that the Minister of Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, had announced possible temporary power supply interruptions on July 13 due to ENI’s scheduled shutdown for maintenance and gas production increase. However, he emphasised that the Ministry was working to prevent any nationwide power outage.
The maintenance aims to boost gas production and will involve a temporary shutdown of ENI’s Offshore Gas Receiving Facility. While some power interruptions are likely, the Ministry assures that measures are in place to minimise the impact.
