President John Dramani Mahama has given assurance to contractors engaged under the government’s Big Push infrastructure drive that they will receive timely payments after finishing projects, provided they satisfy quality benchmarks and deadlines.
He stated that the administration has put in place the needed financial provisions to guarantee that approved work was paid for without holdups, emphasising that resources were already secured to honour commitments.
Speaking during the Resetting Ghana Tour in the Central Region on Saturday, June 27, 2026, President Mahama added that contractors who complete high-quality work on time will also be prioritised for upcoming phases of the initiative.
“We have been to the roads we have awarded in the region, and I can say that they are working really hard. I have told the contractors under the Big Push Programme that we have a second phase of that programme, and so whoever is able to complete his road well and on time will be considered for the second phase,” he said.
He also reaffirmed that late payments will not be a problem once certification was finalised. “Mind you, we have the funds available. It is not the case that we are now looking for the money to pay those who are done.
…Ato Forson has ensured that finances are made available so any contractor who is able to produce the completion certificate, in about two weeks or less, you will receive your money,” he said.
President Mahama noted that he had personally toured several of the road projects underway in the Central Region and was pleased with the progress being made by contractors under the programme.
