The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has strongly rejected the Electoral Commission’s (EC) decision to rerun parliamentary elections in 19 polling stations within the Ablekuma North Constituency. According to the NPP, this move is unjustified and lacks consensus.
“We don’t know what the EC is up to. The NPP is not going to give up on this particular fight,” said the Deputy General Secretary of the NPP, Haruna Mohammed. He emphasised that the party’s representatives were present at the meeting with the EC, but no agreement was reached on rerunning the elections. “Our representatives were at the meeting, and I have to put it on record that there was no such agreement with the EC,” Mohammed stated. “That is very evident in the release of the EC itself—that the political parties did not agree.”
The EC’s decision to rerun the elections in 19 polling stations stems from the destruction of physical pink sheets and the lack of verification by Presiding Officers on scanned Pink Sheets used during collation. However, the NPP believes that the remaining results, particularly from three polling stations, are sufficient to complete the collation and declare a winner ¹.
“We don’t know of any elections. The EC must conclude the collation on the three polling stations—this is still outstanding, and that is clear for us,” Mohammed added. The NPP has insisted that security should be provided to protect the collation process instead of rerunning the vote in polling stations where results were already accepted by party agents.
The party is set to hold a press conference at 10 a.m. on Thursday, where General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong will outline the NPP’s official position. Meanwhile, the EC has scheduled the rerun for Friday, July 11, 2025, promising a transparent and peaceful process with security provided by the Ghana Police Service.
