Ranking Member on Parliament’s Defence Committee, Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, has called for urgent government action over what he describes as an unprecedented drug trafficking crisis threatening Ghana’s international reputation.
The Assin South MP, in a social media post, warned that Ghana risked becoming a “cocaine coast” if authorities failed to tackle the growing number of major narcotics consignments reportedly linked to the country.
Rev. Ntim Fordjour questioned whether the government was “directly facilitating” the transit of narcotics or benefiting from the trade, citing what he described as a failure to take decisive action against those responsible.
He also questioned why no government official had been dismissed over the alleged failures.
Calls for full-scale investigation
The legislator called for an immediate, full-scale investigation involving the Ministry of the Interior, Ministry of Transport, Narcotics Control Commission, Ghana Immigration Service and the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI).
He insisted that the government must take concrete steps to address the situation and protect Ghana’s international image.
His comments come amid growing concerns over reported narcotics trafficking cases involving Ghana and calls for stronger action by state security and law enforcement agencies.
