More than 101,000 first-year students across Ghana’s accredited tertiary institutions have benefited from the government’s “No Academic Fees” policy for the 2025/2026 academic year, according to the Students Loan Trust Fund (SLTF).

In a statement issued on May 21, 2026, the Fund disclosed that a recent disbursement covering 29,687 additional students has increased total beneficiaries to 101,905 nationwide.

The SLTF indicated that the beneficiaries were drawn from 170,425 students who successfully validated their records out of 187,733 submissions received from 163 public tertiary institutions across the country.

The intervention forms part of President John Dramani Mahama’s “No Fees Stress” initiative, designed to reduce the financial burden on first-year tertiary students.

According to the Fund, additional administrative measures have been introduced to ensure that all eligible students are captured under the programme.

It explained that the No Fees Stress Portal has been modified to allow students who were unable to validate their records during the 2024/2025 application cycle to complete the process, provided they did not previously receive support.

The SLTF further announced an extension of the validation deadline to May 31, 2026, to give more students the opportunity to access the scheme.

“The SLTF encourages all eligible first-year students to take advantage of this opportunity and complete their applications promptly,” the statement noted.

The Fund added that it remains committed to completing all academic fee disbursements by the end of June 2026.
