The Foreign Ministry has voided 10 Service Passports it says were handed out unlawfully to people who had no right to hold them.
The move follows early findings into an alleged passport-selling racket that has been running since 2023.
In a statement released on Sunday, November 8, the Ministry said the documents were secured after cash changed hands with a syndicate embedded in the passport system.
Two staff members have been suspended over the affair and handed over to the Ghana Police Service for deeper probe and possible court action.
They are the Acting Director of Passports, Mahama Yahaya Amantana, and a junior Foreign Service Officer, Alhassan Sumani, who petitioners fingered as the alleged mastermind behind the operation.
The scandal came to light after two separate complaints landed at the Ministry.
The first arrived on October 8, 2026, flagging alleged irregular issuance of Service Passports to ineligible persons.
One complainant said he parted with US$29,000 in 2023, while the other claimed US$5,000 was paid to members of the network in 2026.
Acting on the first complaint, The Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, set up an investigative committee on October 13, 2026, to look into the claims.
According to the Ministry, initial checks confirmed that 10 unqualified persons received the passports through the alleged deal.
They have been named as Richard Sakyi Apenteng, Augustina Agyei Boateng, Juliet Amankwa, Rebecca Agyeiwaa, Prince Ahensah, Maybel Ahensah, Twumasi Francis Kwame, Gyabaah Anthony, Frederick Ennin and Bosompem Richard.
The Ministry said the tainted passports were issued between January 2023 and August 2026.
