The Chairman of the Church of Pentecost, Apostle Eric Nyamekye (PhD), has sought to ease tensions after the recent uproar over comments by the Ghana Free Zones Authority Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Dr. Mavis Awusi, saying the episode has only increased the church’s public profile.
Dr. Awusi’s remarks drew criticism after she fired back at concerns the Church of Pentecost Chairman raised about the environmental harm from illegal mining, commonly called galamsey.
Following the backlash, the Chief of Staff, Dr. Julius Debrah, openly apologised for Dr. Awusi during his birthday thanksgiving service at PIWC Trasacco on Sunday, April 26.
He called the comments a “slip” and asked for pardon to bring calm.
Addressing the matter, Apostle Nyamekye (PhD) made clear he holds no ill will and sees no need to extend the issue.
“As for this lady, she has made me more popular. People like that I don’t think about because she has made my church and myself more popular,” he said.
He emphasised that if he were upset, he would have spoken on it at length but has decided to move past it.
“If I held anything against her, like standing here to speak for 45 minutes, I would have said something about her. I think we all have our opinions on issues, so let’s forget about this issue,” he stated.
