The Ghana Police Service has arrested 77 suspects in a coordinated anti-drug operation across the Tamale Metropolis and Savelugu Municipality.
The operation, carried out by the Northern Regional Police Command’s Special Operations Team, known as Red Maria, forms part of intensified efforts to clamp down on drug peddling and related criminal activity in the region.
Police said the exercise began on Monday night, March 23, with targeted raids on identified hotspots, including Lamashegu, where one suspect was arrested.
At the Aboabo market area, another suspect was apprehended with a powdered substance believed to be cocaine, while further intelligence led officers to NOBISCO, where an alleged supplier was arrested, although no incriminating items were found at his residence.
The operation later extended to Savelugu, where a major raid at a known drug peddling enclave resulted in the arrest of 74 additional suspects.
