The Eastern Regional Police Command has arrested a 36-year-old woman in connection with the alleged abduction of a nine-year-old girl at Agormanya Zongo in the Odumase-Krobo District.

The suspect, identified as Regina Mamle Tawiah, was picked up on Monday, April 20, 2026, following a swift intelligence-led operation involving officers from the Odumase-Krobo District Command and personnel of the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) at the Accra International Airport.

Police say the arrest comes a day after the victim’s father reported to authorities that his daughter had left home on Sunday, April 19, 2026, and failed to return.

According to preliminary investigations, the suspect was intercepted at the airport while allegedly attempting to send the child to Kenya.

The victim was successfully rescued during the operation and has since been reunited with her father.

The suspect was arraigned before the Odumase-Krobo Circuit Court on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, where she pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The court subsequently remanded her into police custody to reappear on May 5, 2026, for a case management conference.

The Eastern Regional Police Command has assured the public of its continued commitment to protecting lives and property, while urging citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
