Senior police officers at the Amasaman Divisional Command stand accused of aiding armed landguards to forcibly evict the legitimate Divisional Chief of Ga-Odumase, Nii Achia Kwablah Asamani II (also known as Nii Amardey Asamani), from his palace.
Shockingly, officers reportedly provided security for unrecognised elders to install a rival Chief—Sowah Odootei, a non-royal with no ties to the Ga Odumase stool.
Odootei, a former errand boy from La who once worked under the late Chief, Nii Acquah II, allegedly exploited his past access to the palace to stage an illegitimate takeover.
Backed by police and armed enforcers from the UN landguards Group, he has seized the palace, terrorising locals with sporadic gunfire.
The Amasaman Divisional Command, led by Assistant Commander of Police (ACP) Susan Adjei, claims they were unaware of Odootei’s plan to declare himself Chief—an explanation rejected by furious kingmakers.
Stool Father, Nii Kojo Kwei, and Stool Mother, Naa Odey, have implored the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. Christian Tetteh Yohonu, to immediately reshuffle the divisional leadership for misconduct.
Court documents reveal a 2023 High Court order (Justice Emmanuel Ankamah) barring such actions, yet the illegal installation proceeded on June 12, 2025, under police watch.
A July 2024 letter from the Numo Apumah Family explicitly disowned Odootei, stating any claim by him would be “null and void.”
Despite the IGP’s directives to halt the ceremony, the Accra Regional Commander DCOP Duuti Tuaruka and Amasaman police allegedly ignored the orders. With tensions boiling, elders have warned of an impending violence and urged President Mahama, the Interior Minister, and security agencies to intervene before chaos erupts.
