The Ghana Police Service has picked up Sibamay Zakaria after a viral clip showed him attacking a pastor who was already in police custody for an alleged offense.
The clergyman, Daniel Junior Yaw Adjei, was arrested on Wednesday, August 12, after a separate video surfaced online in which he was accused of making insulting remarks about Prophet Mohammed.
In a Facebook update on Thursday, August 13, the Police Service said Zakaria was now in custody and cooperating with ongoing investigations.
Authorities stated that once inquiries are wrapped up, Zakaria will be taken to court. Meanwhile, the Police Professional Standards Bureau has launched a probe into how the incident occurred.
The Bureau is tasked with finding out what triggered the attack and reviewing the actions of the officers and others present. The Service added that anyone found guilty of misconduct will face the relevant disciplinary measures.
