The Committee for Public Accountability (CPA) has voiced concerns regarding the legality of the state’s seizure of the private aviation facility run by McDan Aviation at Accra’s international airport.
The action follows the Ghana Airports Company Limited’s cancellation of its Fixed Base Operator (FBO) arrangement with McDan Aviation, citing disagreements over outstanding licence fees, rent, and royalties. In response, CPA Executive Chairman Collins Owusu Amankwah urged that the contract between GACL and McDan Aviation be made public without delay.
“These developments raise serious questions. What kind of signal does this send to private investors operating under state concessions? Did GACL secure a court order prior to the eviction? Was McDan afforded sufficient notice in line with state requirements?
“Why were national security personnel involved in what is essentially a commercial lease dispute? On what legal grounds was this facility forcibly taken over?” he questioned.
He added that the Committee expects a formal response from the Ministry of Transport and is calling for parliamentary scrutiny of the eviction process. “The CPA will continue to follow this matter closely and will explore every lawful avenue to ensure administrative justice in this country,” Mr. Amankwah stated.
The takeover has ignited debate over investor confidence and the government’s handling of private sector operations, highlighting the need for transparency and due process to uphold public trust.
