Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz is expected to submit his squad for Ghana’s upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced.
The Portuguese coach, who recently received a contract extension to continue leading the senior national team for an undisclosed period, is currently preparing his squad ahead of Ghana’s opening qualifiers.
Ghana will begin its campaign against Côte d’Ivoire on September 24, before taking on The Gambia three days later.
Squad to Be Announced Before Queiroz’s Return
GFA Communications Director Henry Asante Twum said Queiroz has been working on the squad since Ghana’s participation in the FIFA World Cup and is expected to submit the list soon.
“He [Queiroz] will announce the squad before he arrives but he is working,” Asante Twum told 3Sports.
“He has been working since we ended the World Cup. He will soon submit the squad list and then we will make it public.”
He added that the coach would return to Ghana to finalise preparations before the qualifiers.
“He will come back home [Ghana], fine-tune the petty things and then we can begin preparations for the AFCON qualifiers.”
Ghana Seeking AFCON Return
The Black Stars are eager to return to the continental competition after missing the 2025 AFCON in Morocco, ending a run of appearances that had stretched back to 2004.
Ghana has been drawn in Group C of the 2027 AFCON qualifiers alongside Côte d’Ivoire, The Gambia and Somalia.
The team will be hoping to secure a strong start against Côte d’Ivoire before facing The Gambia as the qualification race gets underway.
