Hiplife pioneer Reggie Rockstone has endorsed Wendy Shay for the Artiste of the Year award at the 2026 Telecel Ghana Music Awards, scheduled for 9 May in Accra.

In an interview with Kwame Dadzie on Joy FM’s Showbiz A-Z, Rockstone acknowledged the strength of the field but indicated that a victory for Wendy Shay would represent a significant and refreshing outcome for the music industry. He also noted that Medikal remains a strong contender, citing his consistency and output.

Wendy Shay is nominated alongside Medikal, Black Sherif, Diana Hamilton, Stonebwoy, and Sarkodie in the category.

A win would mark a first Artiste of the Year title for both Wendy Shay and Medikal. Black Sherif and Diana Hamilton have each secured the award once, while Stonebwoy and Sarkodie are two-time winners.

At the 2025 ceremony, King Promise claimed the top honour following a highly competitive contest that generated extensive public debate and media scrutiny.

The Artiste of the Year category recognises the performer adjudged by the Academy, Board, and the general public to have achieved the highest audience appeal and popularity within the year under review. Eligibility requires the release of a hit single, EP, or album, alongside a strong showing in nominations.

The 2026 awards ceremony will be held at the The Palms Convention Centre.
