The 46th June 4th Uprising Commemoration was held at Lasii Park in Odumase Krobo, Eastern Region, with the theme “Resetting Ghana, Reflections on June 4th.” The event drew prominent figures from the National Democratic Congress (NDC), including Dr. Zanetor Rawlings, MP for Korley Klottey Constituency, her brother Kimathi Rawlings, NDC Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, General Secretary Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, and others.
NDC Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketiah emphasized that the June 4th uprising was sparked by corruption and frustration among the armed forces and the general public. He stressed that resetting Ghana requires a collective fight against corruption and accountability from all, including government appointees. “Accountability is very crucial in every country’s resetting agenda,” he stated.
The Chairman further indicated that for a reset to be effective, it is prudent for everyone to get together in one armbrella to first fight against corruption. He added that the NDC government, led by President John Dramani Mahama, is committed to fighting corruption and holding party appointees accountable.
Nketiah cautioned party faithful occupying governmental departments to be transparent in their dealings and avoid any form of corruption. They should not be found in any form of corruption. He noted that the NDC’s commitment to holding appointees accountable is not a payback agenda but a procedure to recover looted funds and deliver on party promises.
He said the massive endorsement for the NDC in the just-ended 2024 general election is a call for proper accountability. “It’s mostly easier to hold your opponent accountable, but this reset is holding party appointees to government sectors too,” he stated.
For her part, Dr. Zanetor Rawlings urged the youth to contribute to promoting peace and stability, essential for national development. She added that as youth, every decision they make in life creates a ladder to either climb higher or descend lower. In that regard, it has become necessary for parents to empower their children through education or some technical or vocational training.
Speaking as the General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress, Mr. Fifi Kwetey charged Ghanaians to learn a helping hand in the reset agenda. The Secretary mentioned that the reset goes beyond the President of the Republic and the Party either NDC or NPP. It’s Ghana, and therefore the need for everyone to get on board to “paddle boat” towards progress direction.
“There is the need as a people to transit June 4th from politics,” he added.
