President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Rev. Dr. Stephen Wengam, General Superintendent of Assemblies of God, Ghana, as Chairman of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) Governing Council. This appointment was officially confirmed during an inauguration ceremony held at the Ministry of the Interior in Accra on June 26, 2025.

The ceremony, presided over by Interior Minister, Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, marked a significant milestone in the governance of the GIS. The new council is tasked with providing strategic guidance and oversight for the operations and development of the GIS, a critical institution in Ghana’s border security, migration management, and national development agenda.

With his wealth of experience and leadership skills, Rev. Wengam is well-positioned to steer the GIS Governing Council towards achieving its objectives. His appointment underscores the government’s commitment to ensuring effective management of the country’s immigration services.

The Minister for the Interior, Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, emphasised the importance of collaboration and strategic direction in enhancing the GIS’s responsiveness to evolving global immigration dynamics. With Rev. Wengam at the helm, the GIS is poised to tackle the challenges of migration management and border security in Ghana, ultimately contributing to the country’s development and security.
