A sponsor of the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, 2025, Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, has urged the Attorney General to ensure detailed regulations are prepared within 12 months of the bill becoming law to direct its enforcement.
His comments follow concerns raised by Parliament’s Constitutional and Legal Affairs Committee members that some ministers, after backing and passing bills, often stall in pushing the needed legislative instruments for implementation.
Speaking during a stakeholder meeting on Friday, April 24, the Assin South MP underlined the need to make sure the proposed law is fully put into effect once it gets presidential approval.
He said strong cooperation between the bill’s sponsors and relevant sector ministries would be vital for its smooth rollout.
“It is expected that with close collaboration between the sponsors and the relevant ministries, the minister responsible in this context will, as a matter of urgency, take steps as soon as it is assented to by the President. So within one year, we should have the full bill with the necessary implementation strategies to be able to see it running,” he said.
