SIM Audit Shows No Match with ID Data–NCA

Edmund Yirenkyi Fianko, NCA Director-General

The National Communications Authority (NCA) has revealed that an audit of 2021-2023 SIM registration data shows zero fingerprint matches with the national identity database, raising concerns over record integrity.

The findings are part of preparations for a SIM re-registration exercise to improve data accuracy and security.

The NCA Director-General, Edmund Yirenkyi Fianko, explained that the discrepancies arose from differences in biometric data capture methods.

“NIA fingerprint was taken with contact, whereas mobile registration was contactless,” he says. Other issues include incorrect identity info, unconfirmed biometrics, and data inconsistencies.

Facial recognition showed 81.1% match, but gaps remain. The planned re-registration aims to strengthen verification and align SIM data with the NIA database
