John Kwadwo Gyapong, Oti Regional Minister, has confirmed that six people have been killed in a series of violent attacks in Nkwanta South, raising alarm over growing insecurity in the area.
Speaking on JoyNews’ AM Show on Friday, March 27, Mr Gyapong said the attacks are being carried out by assailants who reportedly lie in wait in bushes and target unsuspecting residents, particularly those working on farms.
According to him, investigations indicate that victims are being ambushed in remote locations, intensifying fear among community members.
He recounted a recent incident involving a young boy who had taken his father’s cattle out to graze but was later found dead in the bush.
Mr Gyapong revealed that, as of Monday, six people—including three children—had lost their lives in the attacks.
He noted that the pattern of violence suggests a deliberate attempt by certain groups to assert control over land by intimidating others and restricting access.
“The nature of these killings points to an effort to instil fear and reinforce territorial claims,” he explained.
The Regional Minister described the situation as deeply troubling and called for swift intervention to restore peace and security in the affected communities.
