The Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church, Ghana, Professor Kwabena Asamoah-Gyadu has demanded clarification on the government’s stance regarding LGBTQ rights.
In an interview on Joy News on April 7, 2026, Kwakye Ofosu dismissed concerns surrounding LGBTQ rights, suggesting that such issues do not rank highly among the most pressing concerns for Ghanaian citizens. His remarks have ignited public debate, with many questioning the government’s commitment to addressing human rights issues in the country.
On April 8, Bishop Asamoah-Gyadu took to Facebook to challenge the Minister’s assertion, asking: “Which Ghanaians?” The prominent religious leader questioned the validity of the claim, demanding to know whether credible data supported the idea that LGBTQ rights were not a priority for the population.
In his post, Asamoah-Gyadu also suggested that if the Minister had changed his position on the matter, he should be honest about it, rather than “belittling everyone’s intelligence.” His remarks were a call for greater transparency and accountability from government officials, urging them to engage with the concerns of the people in a reasonable and informed manner.
