A strong tidal wave has destroyed 13 houses in the coastal community of Moree in the Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese District, leaving more than 80 residents homeless.
The National Disaster Management Organisation confirmed that the incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday at about 3:00 a.m.
In a statement, the Central Regional Directorate of NADMO said no casualties were recorded despite the extensive destruction caused by the tidal surge.
According to the agency, officers in the area received distress calls reporting collapsed buildings, destruction of property and disruption of livelihoods following the incident.
Personnel from NADMO, the Ghana Police Service, National Security and the District Assembly reportedly responded swiftly to the scene to protect lives and property.

The statement noted that emergency teams conducted rapid assessments and arranged temporary shelter for displaced residents.
“The state of the sea is still rough,” NADMO cautioned, urging residents to remain calm as efforts continue to ensure their safety.
The organisation also expressed sympathy to affected residents and assured the public that support measures were being put in place for those displaced by the disaster.
The incident has renewed concerns about recurring coastal erosion and tidal wave destruction in parts of the Central Region, where several communities continue to face environmental threats linked to rising sea levels and coastal degradation.
Local authorities and disaster management officials have called for long-term interventions, including coastal protection infrastructure and intensified public education, to reduce future risks.
Further assessments and relief operations are expected to continue in the coming days.
