The Ghana Police Service has arrested two suspects, including an alleged gang leader, in connection with a deadly robbery attack on a team bus transporting players of Berekum Chelsea, which resulted in the death of one footballer.
According to a police update, one of the suspects sustained gunshot wounds during an exchange of fire with police intelligence operatives. The injured suspect has since been transported to a hospital and is receiving treatment under police guard, while investigations remain ongoing.
The arrests follow the incident on Sunday, April 12, when six armed robbers ambushed the team’s bus along the Ahyiresu–Kwame Dwumor Sreso (KDS) road in the Nyanihin District. The assailants, reportedly wielding pump-action guns, opened fire on the vehicle, causing the driver to lose control. The bus subsequently veered off the road and crashed into nearby bushes.
Law enforcement authorities have indicated that operations are underway to apprehend additional suspects believed to have participated in the attack. The police have further assured the public of their commitment to bringing all those responsible to justice.
The incident has raised renewed concerns about security on major roadways, particularly for organised groups travelling across regions. Investigations continue as authorities work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the attack.
