Two people have lost their lives and four others sustained injuries following a head-on collision between a tipper truck and a Nigerian passenger bus at Abease along the Elubo-Takoradi Highway.
The crash involved a Sinotruck (Howo) tipper truck with registration number GS 3789-24 and a Nigerian passenger bus bearing registration number AAA 449 YN from Lagos.
According to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), a distress call was received at 11:53 a.m., prompting the immediate deployment of a five-member rescue team from the Elubo Fire Station.
The firefighters arrived at the scene within six minutes and found six occupants trapped in the wreckage—five from the passenger bus and one from the tipper truck.
By the time the rescue team arrived, three of the victims had already been extricated by members of the public. Firefighters rescued the remaining occupants before transporting four injured persons to the Elubo Government Hospital for emergency treatment.

The driver of the passenger bus was pronounced dead at the scene, while the mate of the tipper truck later succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. Their bodies have since been deposited at the hospital’s mortuary.
Preliminary investigations by the Ghana National Fire Service indicate that the accident occurred after the bus driver allegedly swerved to avoid a pothole, causing the vehicle to veer into the lane of the oncoming tipper truck, resulting in the head-on collision.
Following the rescue operation, firefighters disconnected the battery terminals of both vehicles to prevent a possible fire outbreak, cooled the overheated engine compartment of the truck, and cleared debris from the roadway to restore the smooth flow of traffic.
Authorities are expected to conduct further investigations to establish the full circumstances surrounding the fatal crash.
