President John Dramani Mahama has warned Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) that they will be assessed annually based on their utilisation of the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF). Failure to effectively use the funds could result in their dismissal.
The President made this known during his Thank-You tour of the Bono East Region on Friday, May 30, as the government prepares to release the first quarter of the DACF. According to President Mahama, 80% of the funds will be sent directly to the regions for decentralized decision-making.
“We will send you guidelines on how the funds should be disbursed, which will serve as your Key Performance Indicators,” he said. MMDCEs are expected to adhere to these guidelines to avoid being relieved of their duties.
This move comes after criticism from the Minority, who accused the Finance Minister of withholding funds from key government institutions despite available resources. The Minority had expressed concerns nearly six months into the new administration.
President Mahama’s warning emphasises the government’s commitment to ensuring prudent utilization of resources at the local level.
