The Volta Regional House of Chiefs has been alerted to a growing controversy surrounding the installation of Reuben Wokeme as a rival warrior chief of Akata Divisional Clan of Dorfor Traditional Area.
Scores of legitimate kingmakers and accredited elders of the Saho Stool are protesting against the alleged fraudulent and diabolical plans to secure gazette status for Wokeme.
According to the elders, Togbe Gamor Kofi Saho VII was lawfully installed as the Divisional chief at the designated sacred stool room at the house of Gamor in Dorfor-Adidome. However, some self-seeking elders, led by sub-queen-mother of Agorveme, Mama Alorvi Makpeza II, allegedly installed Reuben Wokeme at Dorfor-Atitekpoe, sparking tension and insecurity in the area.
The elders claimed that Wokeme’s installation is a clear case of corruption, illegality, and violation of customs and traditions. They pointed out that previous warrior chiefs of Akata Divisional Clan were installed in the Dorfor Adidome township at the royal house of Gamor, not in Dorfor-Atitekpoe.
The elders have provided historical documentary evidence to justify their claim, including court judgments and traditional records.
They stressed that Togbe Gamor Kofi Saho VII is the rightful Warrior Chief of the Saho Stool of Akata Divisional Clan and that Wokeme’s installation is a breach of the Chieftaincy Act 759 of 2008.
They have cautioned the Volta Regional House of Chiefs not to issue gazette Chieftaincy Declaration forms to Wokeme, citing a Judicial Committee ruling and pending court cases.
The matter has been copied to various authorities, including the Juapong District Police Commander, Ghana Armed Forces, North Tongu District Chief Executive, and the Dorfor Traditional Council.
The elders have warned that those behind Wokeme’s installation, including Mama Alorvi Makpeza II, Stephen Aflo Vordzogbe, Pastor Glova, Setsoafia Ayikpa Kponoglo, and Pastor Fiawoyife, should stop their actions, which are affecting progress and development in the area. They also revealed that some police officers from the Juapong District Police Command were paid to provide security for Wokeme’s installation, and that the installers have been issuing death threats to those supporting Togbe Gamor Kofi Saho VII.
The legitimate kingmakers and elders have dismissed recent publications challenging Togbe Gamor Kofi Saho VII’s legitimacy as mischievous and false. They emphasized that Togbe Gamor Kofi Saho VII has been installed according to the customs and traditions of the Saho Stool of Akata Divisional Clan and that his installation has been backed by court judgments.
