Two persons have reportedly lost their lives and 12 others sustained injuries, some in critical condition, following a ghastly accident on the Walewale road on Sunday, October 18.
The crash involved a cement-laden articulated truck, a Toyota Voxy vehicle and a number of motorbikes.
Reports indicated the truck, which was heading from Walewale, lost control and rammed into the Toyota Voxy that was travelling from Bolgatanga to Tamale.
In the process, the truck also knocked down electricity poles along the stretch.
Several motorbike riders were caught in the collision, with some said to have been crushed.
Among the dead are a female student and a male motorbike rider who was at the scene at the time of the incident.
The impact left several others badly hurt, leading to their transfer to the Tamale Teaching Hospital and other medical facilities for treatment.
Twelve victims are said to be in critical condition at the emergency unit.
Confirming the incident to journalists, the Municipal Chief Executive for West Mamprusi, Mohammed Jabaah, said two people died with several others injured, though he gave a different account of how the accident happened.
According to him, it was rather the Toyota Voxy that lost control and caused the crash. “There was a collision between the articulated truck, which was carrying POP cement, and the Toyota Voxy.
The Voxy lost control, resulting in the accident, involving several vehicles. Two people died and eight were injured,” he stated.
