Activist and Fix The Country convenor Mawuase Oliver Barker-Vormawor has criticised what he describes as double standards among some appointees of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) following their assumption of office.
In a reflective commentary on Facebook on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, Barker-Vormawor said he finds it ironic that individuals who once discouraged his activism are now in positions of power and urging restraint.
“Life is an interesting journey. So much so that sometimes I feel like I may have lived too long,” he said.
According to him, some of these individuals used to privately advise him to step back, arguing that the risks of activism were not worth it.
“People who when the NDC was in opposition will call me… and tell me to stop my activism, because Ghana is not worth the hustle. Ghana is not worth dying for,” he recounted.
He added that fear of political repercussions under the previous administration influenced their stance at the time.
“They will tell me how the Nana Addo government is too vindictive… how they wish they could do what I am doing but they are too scared,” he said.
Barker-Vormawor also claimed that some preferred to stay under the radar to protect their personal interests.
“Ghana is all about tactics… they won’t expose themselves like that because they need to get ahead quietly… preserving their little or getting contracts here and there,” he stated.
Now, he says, those same individuals have taken up influential roles in government.
“Today those people are in power. They have appointments. Big men and women in government,” he noted.
He expressed concern over what he describes as a shift in tone, with some now urging him to step aside.
“I love it the most that they now moralize to me about they care so much about Ghana. And how I should leave them to do their jobs,” he said.
He further alleged that some of the responses he has received have been threatening.
“Some even say to me, ‘We, we are not NPP oo. If you try your things, we will kill you one time,’” he claimed.
