The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has confirmed its participation in the upcoming parliamentary rerun in Ablekuma North Constituency, despite expressing concerns over the Electoral Commission’s (EC) decision.
Former Member of Parliament for Okaikoi North, Issah Fuseini, has emphasised the party’s commitment to democratic processes, stating, “And for the NDC to think that we will probably boycott it, no, it is not like us. We’ll not boycott this election [Ablekuma North]”.
The EC announced the rerun due to disputes over the authenticity of results from the December 7, 2024, general elections in 19 polling stations. The NPP has rejected the EC’s decision, describing it as “unjust” and implying potential political pressure. The party plans to challenge the rerun in court, with NPP General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong stating that their records indicate a win by a margin of 414 votes.
The rerun is scheduled for July 11, 2025, in the 19 affected polling stations. Despite concerns over the EC’s decision, the NPP remains committed to participating in the electoral process.
