The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has confirmed the arrest of 21 suspects in connection with the fatal attack on a military-escorted civilian convoy in Binduri, located in the Upper East Region. This marks a significant increase from the initially reported 11 arrests, as security agencies intensify efforts to identify and apprehend all individuals involved.
The incident occurred on Monday, 27 April, when a convoy transporting approximately 140 civilians from Bawku to Bolgatanga came under sustained gunfire from unidentified assailants. The attack resulted in the deaths of three civilians, while one additional individual sustained injuries. In the ensuing exchange, military personnel reportedly neutralized seven of the attackers.
Authorities have indicated that operations remain ongoing, with security forces actively pursuing additional suspects and working to restore stability in the area.
Speaking on Channel One TV, the Acting Director General of Public Relations for the GAF, Captain (Navy) Veronica Adzo Arhin, confirmed that the arrested individuals are currently in police custody and cooperating with ongoing investigations. She emphasized that the situation remains fluid and issued a caution against attacks on military personnel.
“Please do not attack the military, especially when they are on official duty. Such actions result in unnecessary loss of life, as we are obligated to defend ourselves and fulfill our assigned responsibilities,” she stated.
