The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has announced a temporary power curtailment across parts of the Volta and Oti Regions following a fire outbreak at a substation operated by the Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) in Akosombo.
In a statement, ECG explained that the incident reduced the amount of electricity available for distribution, necessitating load management in affected communities. The curtailment was scheduled in phases, with outages occurring between 1200 hours and 1800 hours on Monday, 27 April, and continuing in some areas from 1800 hours to midnight.
Communities impacted during the earlier period include Adidome Township, Akyemfo, Mafi Anfoe, Mepe Dagorme, Adexor, Battor Gbagbavuinu, Depe, Kpando Technical, KPASEC, Kpando Township, Kudzra, Ve Golokwati, Fume, parts of Nyagbo, Logba, Jasikan Township, Apenkwa, Bodada, Bowiri, Anfoeta, Dzolokpuita, Amedzofe, Dzologborgame, Kpedze, Shiave, Nyive, Matse, Klefe, Ziavi, and surrounding areas. Additional locations such as Aflao Township, Hohoe, and adjoining communities were also affected.

ECG indicated that power supply would be restored once the voltage profile stabilises and normal conditions are achieved. The company urged customers to exercise patience, assuring them that efforts are ongoing to resolve the disruption promptly.
“Power supply will be restored immediately after the voltage profile improves,” the statement noted, while expressing regret for the inconvenience and reaffirming ECG’s commitment to reliable electricity delivery.
