A majority of delegates of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) support calls for Johnson Asiedu Nketia to remain the party’s National Chairman, according to a new Global InfoAnalytics tracking poll.
The survey found that 61% of delegates support Asiedu Nketia continuing in the role, while 26% disagree and 13% expressed no opinion.
The findings represent an increase from the previous Global InfoAnalytics poll conducted in April 2026, when 42% of delegates supported his continued tenure, 39% opposed it and the remainder were undecided.
The poll also assessed delegates’ views on suggestions that Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson should lead the NDC into the 2028 presidential election against the New Patriotic Party’s expected candidate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
According to the survey, 58% of delegates support Dr Ato Forson becoming the NDC’s presidential candidate for the 2028 election, while 23% oppose the proposal and 19% remain undecided.
Global InfoAnalytics also found that support for Dr Ato Forson extends beyond his immediate support base. Among delegates who currently support Asiedu Nketia as the party’s preferred presidential candidate, 25% also believe Dr Ato Forson should represent the NDC in the 2028 election.
The poll suggests that while Asiedu Nketia commands majority support to continue leading the party organisationally, delegates remain divided over who should eventually succeed President John Dramani Mahama as the NDC’s presidential candidate.
The survey was conducted between July 8 and July 14, 2026, using Computer Assisted Telephone Interviews (CATI).
Global InfoAnalytics interviewed 5,637 NDC delegates across all 16 regions. The poll has a 99% confidence level and a margin of error of ±1.7%.
