Government has announced a temporary intervention to cushion the impact of rising fuel prices, with subsidies set to take effect from April 16, 2026, the next pricing window.
Under the measure approved by Cabinet, the state will absorb GH¢2.00 per litre on diesel and GH¢0.36 per litre on petrol, in a bid to ease the burden on households, transport operators, and businesses.
The decision comes amid sustained increases in petroleum prices on the international market, which have driven up ex-pump prices locally and placed additional pressure on the cost of living.
Officials say the intervention will remain in place for one month, during which the government will continue to monitor global oil market trends and assess the need for further policy adjustments.
The move is part of broader efforts to stabilise prices and protect livelihoods as Ghana navigates the effects of external economic shocks.
The government has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting economic recovery while implementing measures aimed at cushioning consumers from volatility in global fuel markets.
