President John Dramani Mahama has touched down in London for a key working trip focused on deepening economic links between Ghana and the United Kingdom, pitching investment prospects, and meeting Ghanaians abroad.

He was met at the airport by Lord Katz MBE of the Royal Household, H.E. Gordon Wetherell, Special Envoy for the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), and H.E. Sabah Zita Benson, Ghana’s High Commissioner to the UK and Ireland.

A May 31 statement from the Presidency said the visit aims to reinforce the historic Ghana-UK partnership while marketing Ghana as a top choice for foreign capital. On his schedule,

President Mahama will have a royal meeting with King Charles III and join a breakfast session with British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer.

“As part of his itinerary, President Mahama will tonight attend a diaspora town hall meeting hosted by the Ghana High Commission in London. On Monday morning, he opens the Ghana-UK Investment Summit at Raffles. Central to the visit, the investment summit is designed to attract foreign direct investment and foster partnerships between Ghanaian entrepreneurs and British investors,” the statement said.

The President will also speak with the Ghanaian community in the UK at a diaspora town hall hosted by the Ghana High Commission in London.

On Monday, he will formally launch the Ghana-UK Investment Summit at Raffles London. The summit seeks to draw foreign direct investment and open doors for collaborations between Ghanaian businesses and British financiers.

President Mahama will further spotlight Ghana’s rising role in global finance with a trip to the London Stock Exchange, where he will ring the bell to open trading.

The visit includes major policy stops, such as an address at Chatham House and a keynote at the 12th Africa Debate at London’s Guildhall. He is due to wrap up the trip on June 3.

The visit is part of the Mahama administration’s drive to build global alliances, pull in investment, and push Ghana’s economic reform agenda.
