Ghana Health Service has reported 10 new cases of Monkeypox (Mpox), bringing the total number of recorded infections to 19. Five of the newly confirmed patients are currently hospitalized and receiving treatment, while health authorities reassure the public that there have been no fatalities reported so far.
Mpox is a viral disease that spreads through close contact with infected individuals, animals, or contaminated materials. Common symptoms include fever, rash, swollen lymph nodes, muscle aches, back pain, headaches, and fatigue.
To curb the spread of the disease, health authorities urge Ghanaians to take preventive measures such as frequent handwashing, avoiding physical contact with symptomatic individuals especially those with unexplained rashes, and reporting suspected cases to the nearest health facility without delay.
