A new digital platform designed to help people verify the marital status of prospective partners before entering into marriage has been launched in Ghana.
Known as Marrify, the application was launched in Accra on August 28, 2026, in partnership with the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MoGCSP).
Marrify functions as a searchable digital registry intended to improve transparency in marriage administration. The platform draws legal information from sources including the Registrar-General’s Department, the courts, Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies, and the Ghana Gazette.
The initiative is aimed at helping prospective couples conduct essential checks before committing to marriage and avoid potential emotional, financial and legal complications arising from undisclosed or unverified marital information.
Verifying marriage-related credentials
Beyond checking the marital status of prospective partners, Marrify allows members of the public to verify whether marriage venues, churches, pastors and Imams are duly licensed and registered to conduct marriages in Ghana.
The platform is expected to promote greater transparency and accountability within the country’s marriage administration system while giving prospective couples access to information that can help them make more informed decisions.
Promoting stronger families
Speaking at the launch, the Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection, Dr Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, commended Marry Right Ghana for introducing the initiative.
She said the platform could contribute to strengthening transparency, accountability and public confidence in Ghana’s marriage administration.
Dr Lartey emphasised that marriage goes beyond being a legal arrangement, noting its broader social, cultural and economic importance to individuals, children, families and communities.
She said initiatives that provide reliable information and promote responsible decision-making could help protect families and contribute to stronger communities.
