Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson has announced a €323 million financing package for the Northern Ghana Water and Sanitation Project, aimed at addressing persistent water shortages and improving sanitation in Tamale, Yendi and Damongo.
The package comprises €98 million in grants and a €225 million highly concessional financing facility from the European Investment Bank (EIB).
Dr Forson announced the development following a meeting with EIB Vice-President Ambroise Fayolle, which he described as productive.
“I have just concluded a productive meeting with European Investment Bank Vice-President Ambroise Fayolle on the financing package for the Northern Ghana Water and Sanitation Project,” he said.
Under the arrangement, the European Commission will provide a €68 million grant, while Invest International, a Dutch government initiative, will contribute an additional €30 million.
The EIB will provide the remaining €225 million through its highly concessional facility.
According to the Finance Minister, the project is expected to address recurring water shortages and strengthen sanitation services in the three beneficiary communities.
The financing package is intended to support improvements in access to reliable water supplies and sanitation infrastructure, addressing longstanding challenges affecting residents in northern Ghana.
