The Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) has expressed strong disappointment with the Parliamentary Select Committee on Health over the rescheduling of a crucial meeting aimed at implementing revised conditions of service. The meeting, initially set for June 26, has been pushed to July 10, 2025, citing the absence of key stakeholders.
GRNMA President, Perpetual Ofori-Ampofo, criticized the development, stating that the rescheduling indicates a lack of urgency in addressing their concerns. She emphasized that the revised collective agreement must be fully implemented by the end of July 2025, warning that failure to meet the timeline could lead to industrial action.
“The rescheduling of the meeting in our view is in bad faith, since it may further delay the implementation of the agreed items. We have, however, decided to give the committee the benefit of the doubt and still trust that their engagement with the ministries of health and finance would be productive,” Ofori-Ampofo said.
“We demand the implementation of the four agreed-upon items not later than July 2025. This is non-negotiable, and we shall advise ourselves if any attempt is made to further delay the implementation,” she added.
The association had suspended its nationwide strike earlier this month based on assurances from the Committee that concrete steps would be taken to implement key items in the agreement. GRNMA views the government’s proposal to delay implementation until 2026 as unacceptable and is pushing for immediate implementation.
