Lawyer for Frederick Kumi, popularly known as “Abu Trica,” Oliver Barker-Vormawor, has made an oral application before the High Court in Accra seeking an order directing the Attorney-General to grant him access to his client.
The application follows the High Court’s decision ordering Kumi’s extradition to the United States, where he is wanted to face charges in connection with an alleged $8 million romance scam.
When the case was called on Monday, July 6, counsel informed the court that despite the extradition order, the whereabouts of his client remained unknown.
“We still don’t know where our client is being held,” Barker-Vormawor told the court.
He further disclosed that he had formally written to the Attorney-General requesting access to Kumi but had yet to receive a response.
The court subsequently stood down proceedings to allow the Attorney-General’s office to respond before determining the application.
Meanwhile, an application filed by the defence seeking a stay of execution of the extradition order has been adjourned to July 9, 2026.
Kumi was rearrested shortly after the High Court dismissed his legal challenge against the extradition request. Security officers immediately took him back into custody to facilitate the extradition process.
His legal team has indicated that it intends to challenge the High Court’s ruling before the Supreme Court.
