The Acting Chief Justice, Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, has issued a directive centralizing the assignment and scheduling of all newly filed cases and applications in Ghana’s superior courts.
In a circular dated April 23, registrars of the High Court, Court of Appeal, and Supreme Court have been instructed to forward all fresh filings to the office of the Acting Chief Justice for appropriate action. All new cases or applications must be routed through the Chief Justice’s office for assignment or empanelment, especially in instances involving multiple courts.
The directive also centralises the authority to fix hearing dates, with the Chief Justice’s office overseeing the scheduling process. The memo states that this new directive supersedes all existing procedures on case assignments and court listings.
