Former Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament, Sarah Adwoa Safo, has declared her intention to contest the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) parliamentary primaries in the constituency ahead of the 2028 elections.
In a statement issued on Thursday, October 22, the former Deputy Majority Leader said her decision followed extensive consultations with party leadership, executives and other stakeholders, as well as personal reflection on her commitment to the constituency.
She stated that she will formally present herself for consideration as the NPP’s parliamentary candidate when the party announces the timetable and guidelines for its parliamentary primaries.
“After considerable reflection, extensive consultation and broad-based engagement with party leadership and executives and guided by my own conviction and unwavering loyalty to the principles and values of our political tradition, I formally announce my intention to once again present myself for consideration as the New Patriotic Party’s Parliamentary Candidate for the Dome-Kwabenya Constituency when the party announces the timetable and guidelines for the parliamentary primaries,” she said.
Adwoa Safo noted that although she had earlier indicated her intention to pursue opportunities outside Dome-Kwabenya, further reflection reinforced her desire to continue representing the constituency in Parliament.
“Earlier, I had indicated my intention to pursue opportunities beyond the constituency. However, upon deeper reflection, I have come to appreciate that there is no greater honour or responsibility than serving and representing the interests and aspirations of the over two hundred thousand constituents of our beloved constituency in Parliament,” she said.
Her announcement signals her plan to seek the NPP’s mandate to represent Dome-Kwabenya again, having served as the constituency’s MP for 12 years.
The former legislator said her decision to return to the contest was driven by her enduring commitment to the people of Dome-Kwabenya and her belief that she still has more to contribute to the constituency’s development.
She appealed to party members, stakeholders and constituents to engage with her as the constituency considers the leadership needed to advance its development.
She said her ambition is to continue working towards a constituency where young people can realise their potential, families can thrive and the concerns of ordinary residents receive adequate attention.
