The University of Ghana (UG) has ordered undergraduate students who obtained a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) below 1.00 at the end of the 2025/2026 academic year to withdraw from their programmes.

In a notice posted on Facebook on Thursday, October 22, the Academic Affairs Directorate said the directive is in accordance with Section 9.26 of the University Regulations for Junior Members (2017), which spells out requirements for academic progression.

Per the regulation, students must obtain a minimum CGPA of 1.00 and meet the academic requirements of their schools or departments to progress to the next level. The Directorate emphasized that the university’s regulations make no provision for probation. Therefore, students whose CGPA falls below 1.00 after all grades for their registered courses have been released must withdraw from their programmes.

The statement added that affected students should check their academic standing on the university’s Management Information System (MIS) Web and initiate the withdrawal process via the Student and Staff Portal (STS).

“Affected students are to check their CGPAs on the MIS Web, log in to the STS Portal (sts.ug.edu.gh/services) with their Student ID and PIN and select ‘Withdrawal Request’ to initiate the process,” the statement said.

The Directorate, however, indicated that for some programmes, the respective school or department will initiate the withdrawal process on behalf of affected students.

Students seeking clarification on their academic standing or the withdrawal process have been advised to contact their respective College Academic Offices.

The university also stated that its Careers and Counselling Directorate is available to offer support and guidance to students affected by the directive.
