The Angel Eyes Montessori International School (AEMIS), which utilises the Montessori model of education, held a grand one-year anniversary celebration on its premises on September 6th, 2025, at Sarpeiman near Amasaman in Accra.
The school was established in 2024.
According to its Germany-domiciled Director and Founder, Ms. Helena Ashong, the decision to avoid a metropolitan location for such a prestigious school was intentional.
She explained that it is a common attitude for people to establish well-equipped schools in cities, despite many having been educated in deprived communities themselves.
She noted that highly educated individuals often forget their roots.
Ms. Ashong stated she wanted to change this narrative and share her blessings by developing the Montessori school in Sarpeiman. Her goal is to contribute to national development by introducing the Montessori method in areas less endowed with opportunities, particularly access to quality education.
When asked about challenges facing AEMIS, Ms. Ashong responded, “Every good endeavour has its nascent problems.”
She indicated the school currently has 25 pupils, and enrollment is increasing rapidly as parents observe the fast improvement in their children’s teaching and learning.
The Founder and Director added that school management is encouraged by the results of the teaching methods and the pupils’ high rate of knowledge assimilation.
The challenges and successes of the school’s first year confirm that the initiative was a worthwhile effort in terms of its impact so far and its potential to positively influence the nation’s educational standards in the years ahead.
Mr. Daniel Owusu-Koranteng, who chaired the anniversary ceremony and wrote the school’s anthem, commended AEMIS for its contribution to improving education in the area and in Ghana as a whole.
He praised the school for promoting the Montessori model, which he said provides learners with the opportunity to become self-reliant in seeking knowledge, among other benefits.
He also commended the management for undertaking continuous improvement of the school’s infrastructure, which enhances teaching and learning.
During the event, some kindergarten pupils graduated to the mainstream school, and a new classroom was commissioned as part of the school’s expansion programme.
