Former Chief Justice, Gertrude Torkornoo’s, legal team is gearing up to challenge the Committee of Inquiry’s decision that recommended her removal from office.
The committee, established by President John Dramani Mahama, found her guilty of misconduct and advised her dismissal in a report submitted on September 1, 2025.
Lead counsel Nii Ayikoi Otoo, a former Attorney-General, believes Torkornoo was treated unfairly and deserves a chance to clear her name. “We’re exploring legal options to set the record straight,” Otoo said, drawing parallels to Dr. Danquah’s landmark case. “We will go to court at the right time to fight for justice”.
This upcoming court battle will likely test the boundaries of presidential powers and constitutional protections for judicial office holders. The case centers on allegations of misconduct, including misuse of public funds for personal travel and breaching constitutional provisions in a judge’s transfer.
