The Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has defiantly dismissed what he alleges are death threats from the NDC’s National Vice Chairman, Chief Sofo Azorka, declaring that he will not be intimidated.
The confrontation erupted after Afenyo-Markin’s unannounced visit to the NDC’s Akwatia office on Tuesday, which incensed party executives who accused him of provocation ahead of a critical by-election.
A furious Azorka had condemned the visit as a “highly disrespectful” and “provocative” act, accusing the NPP of using intimidation tactics. Hitting back, Afenyo-Markin claimed Azorka had threatened his life.
“I have heard that the NDC’s Vice Chairman, Chief Sofo Azorka, said that he wants to ‘kill’ me. We know them—the infamous Azorka Boys; all they know is beating people up and killing others. So, this is not his first time threatening people. But I am not a coward,” he said.
Urging courage amongst his supporters, he added, “There are foot soldiers on the ground. So, nobody should let the words of Azorka put fear into anybody. We do not do politics with fear; it’s all about courage. Our forebearers spent time in jail all for the sake of politics, so don’t let anybody put fear into you.”
The fiery exchange has sharply escalated political tensions in Akwatia, setting a charged atmosphere for the upcoming by-election.
