GoldBod Chief Executive, Sammy Gyamfi, has brushed off comments by the Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, calling them the product of “bitterness,” and said he is prepared to appear before Parliament to explain the operations of the Ghana Gold Board.
Mr Gyamfi said Mr Afenyo-Markin and other NPP voices have criticised GoldBod but have not put forward concrete claims that need a direct reply. He however, drew a line between the Minority Leader’s remarks and those of Ranking Member on Parliament’s Economy Committee, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, whom he described as raising issue-based concerns without making them personal.
The GoldBod boss urged Mr Afenyo-Markin to present specific proof of misconduct at GoldBod instead of making sweeping statements about problems in the institution. He stressed that he is ready to go before any parliamentary committee to answer questions about how the Gold Board is being run.“
As for Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, I can take some of the things he says seriously because they are not personal. Afenyo Markin is just being personal. He’s a bitter friend, so I can understand. You can see the hatred and the bitterness in his voice,” he said during an X Space discussion on Sunday, August 9.
Mr Gyamfi also dared the Public Accounts Committee to invite him if there are claims that money is being diverted from GoldBod, noting that Parliament has the right tools to examine the body.
“If he wants me in Parliament, I’m saying they should invite me tomorrow. I am ready. Economic Committee, Finance Committee, Lands and Mines Committee, and they should bring media people and publishers,” he added.
