Former Assin Central MP, Kennedy Agyapong, has withdrawn from the NPP’s “Thank You” tour, citing security threats to his supporters. The decision follows a violent incident at an event in Kumasi, where a student from KNUST was stabbed during a confrontation between Agyapong’s team and alleged NPP-affiliated men.
Agyapong confirmed his withdrawal, stating, “Because of what happened yesterday, myself and my team want to pull out because lives are threatened, I don’t think I can protect my team enough. So we want out so that Dr Bawumia can do his campaign.”
The incident occurred when a wealthy friend of Agyapong’s gave money to a performance group, which was allegedly taken by force by armed men affiliated with the NPP. A confrontation ensued, resulting in the stabbing of one of the performers.
Agyapong’s team has lodged an official complaint with the police, and he vowed to pursue justice for the victim.
