The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources (MLNR) has warned that everyone arrested in connection with illegal mining will be prosecuted as the state steps up its fight against galamsey (illegal mining).

This follows the arrest of 13 suspected illegal miners by the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) at Osino in the Fanteakwa South District of the Eastern Region on Friday, September 25, 2026.

Speaking on journalists on Saturday, September 26, the Ministry’s Spokesperson, Paa Kwasi Schandof, said all dockets on illegal mining were now with the Attorney General’s Office.

He noted the AG’s office would update the public as the cases move forward.

“All prosecutions are in the custody of the Attorney General, and I’m sure that in due course, the office of the AG would offer the relevant updates,” he said.

Mr Schandof insisted no offender would be shielded, irrespective of status or connections. “The assurance to the Ghanaian people is that nobody who has been caught, fingered, or arrested in illegal mining will go scot-free.

The law will take its full course, irrespective of anybody who has been involved,” he stated.

The Osino swoop is part of sustained NAIMOS operations aimed at dismantling illegal mining networks across the country.
